COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Middle East Policy is structured across four semesters, progressively building expertise in regional studies, U.S. foreign policy, and strategic decision-making. In Semester 1, students complete four foundational courses that establish a strong base in the history and politics of the Middle East, the evolution of U.S. foreign policy, terrorism and counterterrorism, and the role of intelligence in national security decision-making.In Semester 2, the focus shifts to contemporary regional challenges and U.S. engagement, with required courses on modern warfare in the Middle East, political economy, and U.S. statecraft. Students also choose an elective that allows them to explore specialized topics such as Turkish politics, militant movements, or emerging policy challenges like climate change and migration. Semester 3 continues this advanced exploration with courses on governance and leadership in the Arab world, U.S. efforts toward Middle East peace, and the process of American foreign policy decision-making. Students again select an elective to deepen their understanding of topics such as violent extremism, ideological conflicts, or U.S. strategy toward Iran.In Semester 4, students complete final required coursework, including U.S. energy policy, a decision-making simulation course, and a master’s thesis capstone project that integrates their learning. Additional electives provide opportunities to study topics such as Israel’s political landscape, U.S. policy debates, and international development and crisis response. Throughout the program, special topics electives offer further flexibility, covering evolving issues in Middle East affairs and public policy skills. Overall, the curriculum blends theory, policy analysis, and practical application, preparing students for leadership roles in international affairs and policy-making.
