COURSE CURRICULUM

The TESOL master’s curriculum is structured across three terms—fall, spring, and summer—providing a balanced progression from theoretical foundations to applied practice. In the fall term, students build core knowledge through courses such as Applied Linguistics for Language Educators, Second Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics focusing on language, literacy, and culture, and Virtual Learning, Collaboration, and Transmedia, which introduces modern digital approaches to teaching. The spring term shifts toward instructional design and practical application, with courses in Language Curriculum and Course Design, Theory to Practice in Language Pedagogy, and Issues in Language Assessment, alongside a specialization course that allows students to begin tailoring their studies to specific interests. During the summer term, the program emphasizes real-world teaching experience and integration of learning. Students take Teacher English in International Contexts and complete a Clinical Practicum, gaining hands-on experience in diverse educational settings. The program culminates in a Capstone Integration Experience, where students choose between a practice-focused or research-oriented (scholarship) track to demonstrate their competencies. An additional specialization course further supports individualized learning. Overall, the curriculum is designed to ensure that students develop strong theoretical understanding, practical teaching skills, and the ability to adapt to global and multicultural language education environments.
