COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Psychology (MAP) program is designed to prepare students for doctoral study, careers in psychology-related fields, and leadership roles across a range of professional settings. The program provides a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, and applied practice within an academically rigorous and supportive learning environment. While it includes substantial clinical and applied coursework, the degree is not intended to lead to licensure as a practicing therapist or psychologist. Instead, it emphasizes the development of advanced analytical, research, and communication skills that support academic progression and professional versatility. The curriculum covers core areas such as diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders, psychological assessment of intelligence and personality, counseling theories, interpersonal and group therapy, multicultural counseling, social psychology, scientific writing, and industrial-organizational psychology. Students also engage with foundational psychological domains including research methods, physiological psychology, psychopathology, behavioral learning principles, and lifespan development, which collectively strengthen their understanding of human behavior across contexts. Elective options allow further exploration of positive psychology and career development theory, while additional applied courses provide opportunities in substance abuse treatment, psychopharmacology, child and adolescent interventions, and trauma-informed care. The program also offers flexibility for students to complete the required units through approved additional coursework when necessary.
