COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in United States Law offers two structured pathways—Fundamentals Track and Flexible Track—allowing international students to tailor their studies based on whether they intend to pursue a U.S. bar exam or a more customizable academic experience.The Fundamentals Track requires 24 units and is specifically designed for students planning to sit for bar exams such as California or New York. It begins with 4 units of required foundational courses, including Introduction to U.S. Law and U.S. Legal Research and Writing. Students must then complete at least 12 units of bar-related subjects, selecting from key legal areas such as constitutional law, contracts, civil procedure, criminal law, evidence, property, and professional responsibility. These courses ensure alignment with bar eligibility requirements, particularly the inclusion of ethical lawyering and core tested subjects. The remaining 8 units are electives, allowing students to further strengthen their knowledge in relevant legal areas, with some flexibility based on approval. Students are responsible for choosing courses that meet the specific requirements of the bar exam they plan to take.The Flexible Track requires 26 units and is ideal for students who prefer broader academic exploration rather than strict bar preparation. Like the Fundamentals Track, it includes 4 units of required introductory courses in U.S. law and legal writing. Students then complete 12 units from a selection of core legal subjects such as corporations, contracts, criminal law, property, remedies, and taxation, among others. The final 10 units consist of electives, giving students significant freedom to customize their studies according to their interests and career goals.Overall, both tracks provide a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. legal system, with the Fundamentals Track focusing on bar readiness and the Flexible Track emphasizing academic flexibility and specialization.
