COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agricultural & Food Business Management major is structured as a four-year Bachelor of Science degree, totaling 180 credits, and offers a comprehensive blend of coursework in economics, business, agriculture, and general education. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational subjects, including agricultural economics (AEC 121), public speaking, and introductory calculus, alongside composition and fitness courses. They also begin exploring data and technology in agriculture through courses such as AG 111 or AEC 252. The curriculum is complemented by Baccalaureate Core (Bacc Core) classes covering cultural diversity, social processes, and sciences.During the second year, students deepen their understanding of agricultural and food economics (AEC 251), financial and managerial accounting (BA 211 and BA 213), and marketing (AEC 221). They also refine their writing skills and fulfill additional Bacc Core requirements in biological sciences and Western culture. Electives begin to appear in the schedule, allowing for academic flexibility.The third year emphasizes analytical and quantitative skills through courses such as intermediate applied economics (AEC 311), statistical methods (ST 351 and ST 352 or AEC 446), and agricultural price and market analysis (AEC 447). Students also begin to select upper-division electives in both business and applied economics. Experiential learning is encouraged through research, projects, or internships, helping students gain practical, real-world experience.In the final year, students focus on advanced applications in financial and marketing management (AEC 465 and AEC 466), agricultural business management (AEC 442), and policy issues (AEC 461). The curriculum includes further upper-division electives and unrestricted electives, allowing students to tailor the degree to their interests or career goals. The program’s blend of core business training and sector-specific knowledge prepares graduates for careers across agribusiness, food systems, finance, or farm management.
