ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Oregon State University (OSU), located in Corvallis, Oregon, is a public land-grant research university offering over 200 undergraduate programs and a wide range of graduate and doctoral degrees across its 11 colleges. As of 2023, it is the largest university in the state with over 37,000 students enrolled, including a significant population of out-of-state students. OSU is classified among R1 institutions for very high research activity and consistently leads the state in research funding, receiving nearly \$450 million in 2022. The university also ranks among the top destinations for Fulbright Scholars. OSU holds a unique position as one of only three U.S. institutions with land, sea, space, and sun grant designations, reflecting its broad commitment to research and innovation.The university traces its roots to 1858 as Corvallis Academy and was officially incorporated as Corvallis College in 1868 when it was designated Oregon’s land-grant institution. Early leadership and development were significantly influenced by the Southern Methodist Church and local Freemasons. Over time, the college evolved in name and mission, gradually expanding its academic offerings beyond agriculture to include science, engineering, liberal arts, and education. By 1937, it became known as Oregon State College, and in 1961, it was officially renamed Oregon State University. The school has played a central role in higher education in Oregon and has a long tradition of academic excellence, public service, and scientific research.
