COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics Education program is a comprehensive four-year degree that combines strong scientific knowledge with professional teaching skills to prepare students for teaching physics at the secondary school level. The program begins with foundational courses in biology, general chemistry, composition and introductory education classes, along with professional learning communities that support early teaching development. Students also study calculus and progress into classical physics with laboratory work, building a solid base in both mathematics and physical science. Early exposure to education courses such as curriculum development and instructional strategies helps students understand how to effectively teach scientific concepts while gaining initial classroom insights. As they advance, students continue with more complex subjects like calculus II, environmental science or ecology and introductory physics, along with courses in special education and educational psychology to better understand diverse student needs.In the middle phase of the program, students focus on combining teaching strategies with advanced physics topics. Courses such as optics, modern physics and additional physics electives deepen their subject knowledge, while classes in classroom management, curriculum design and literacy development strengthen their teaching abilities. Students also complete general education requirements like humanities, social sciences and government to maintain a well-rounded education. Practical experience becomes more significant in the later stages, with secondary school practicum providing opportunities to observe, assist and teach in real classroom settings. Additional courses such as multicultural education, adolescent psychology and methods of teaching secondary science further prepare students for diverse classroom environments.The final stage of the program includes directed teaching, where students take on full teaching responsibilities in a secondary school under supervision, along with a professional capstone experience. Overall, this degree ensures that graduates are well-prepared with both in-depth physics knowledge and hands-on teaching experience, enabling them to confidently educate and inspire high school students.
