COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Education Bachelor of Science in Education program at Northwest Missouri State University is a comprehensive four-year curriculum designed to prepare students for teaching business subjects at the secondary level. In the first year, students focus on foundational courses such as composition, biology, computer technology, communication, and introductory education courses, along with professional learning communities that introduce teaching concepts early. The second semester continues with mathematics, oral communication, global perspectives, and curriculum development courses, building a strong academic and teaching base.In the second year, students begin core business-related coursework, including macroeconomics, accounting, and literature, along with physical science and special education. The following semester includes accounting II, microeconomics, educational psychology, and civics, along with continued training in teaching methods and classroom development. These courses help students connect business knowledge with effective teaching strategies.The third year emphasizes advanced business and teaching skills. Students study management, marketing, business communication, and business law while also taking specialized education courses such as classroom management, curriculum design, and teaching methods. They also explore digital technologies and computer applications relevant to business education. Courses in adolescent psychology and literacy intervention further strengthen their ability to work with students in diverse classroom settings.In the final year, students focus on professional preparation and real-world teaching experience. They complete advanced courses in program administration, multicultural education, and electives, and must pass the Praxis Business Education exam. The program culminates with a professional capstone and directed teaching experience, where students gain hands-on classroom practice.
