COURSE CURRICULUM

This is a 4-year (9-term including summer) program with no minor required, focused heavily on biology, ecology, and field-based science.In the first year, students build a strong science foundation with Principles of Biology, General Chemistry I and II, and math courses (from precalculus to calculus). They also complete Composition and introductory courses like General Botany.In the second year, the focus shifts to core biological sciences and data skills. Students take General Zoology, Physics, Statistics, Genetics, and either Microbiology or Cell Biology. They also begin learning analytical and research-based concepts like Linear Statistical Models.In the third year, students move into specialized environmental and ecological studies. Courses include Basic Ecology, Local Flora, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and options like Entomology or Invertebrate Zoology. A short summer course on Woody Landscape Plants is also recommended.In the fourth year, students gain advanced, field-specific knowledge. Courses include Ornithology (birds), Mammalogy (mammals), Herpetology (reptiles and amphibians), Animal Anatomy & Physiology, and Biological Evolution. They also take Methods in Plant & Animal Ecology and Wildlife Management & Conservation.In the final stage, students complete a Biological Science Seminar and advanced electives such as Environmental Issues, Advanced GIS, or Environmental Regulations. Additional general education courses like humanities, fine arts, and social sciences are also completed.Overall, this program is highly science-intensive and research-focused. It combines lab work, field studies, data analysis, and environmental management. Students graduate with strong skills in wildlife research, conservation planning, GIS mapping, and ecological analysis, preparing them for careers in wildlife conservation, environmental science, forestry, and research.
