COURSE CURRICULUM

Students planning to transfer into a business program at Northwest Missouri State University are encouraged to focus primarily on liberal arts courses during their first two years of study at a community college or another university. This foundation helps develop essential skills such as communication, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning, which are important for success in business education. Along with liberal arts courses, students may also include selected business-related subjects to better prepare for their major. Recommended courses include college algebra, statistics, computers and information technology, principles of accounting, business communication, macroeconomics, microeconomics, business law, fundamentals of business finance, principles of management, and principles of marketing. These courses provide a strong introductory understanding of core business concepts and help students transition smoothly into upper-level coursework after transferring.Courses taken at an accredited institution that are equivalent to those offered at Northwest can typically be transferred, provided that students complete at least 60 percent of their major or minor coursework at the university. This ensures that students gain sufficient exposure to Northwest’s academic standards and program requirements. Additionally, special articulation agreements are available with certain community colleges, particularly for students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science degree. These agreements help streamline the transfer process and ensure that previously earned credits are applied efficiently toward the bachelor’s degree.
