COURSE CURRICULUM

Admission to the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) program at Northwest Missouri State University requires students to have a background in vocational, technical, or military-based education from a regionally accredited institution. Eligible applicants include those who have completed a one-year or two-year technical certificate from a community or junior college, an Associate of Applied Science degree, or an Associate of Science degree in a technical or vocational field. In addition, students with military training may qualify through Joint Services Transcript credit, whether they have completed 24 to 59 credit hours or 60 or more hours. This eligibility structure ensures that students entering the program already possess practical skills and foundational knowledge that can be expanded through advanced study.The B.A.S. curriculum is flexible and tailored to each student’s chosen discipline, allowing individuals to combine their prior technical training with a specific area of emphasis. For example, a student with a background in agriculture may choose an emphasis in management to enhance their business skills and career opportunities. While requirements vary depending on the selected field, all students must complete 33 credit hours from the Northwest Core along with three hours of institutional requirements. The number of additional coursework hours required at the university depends on previous qualifications. Students with a one-year certificate must complete at least 39 credit hours in their emphasis area, while those with a two-year certificate, A.A.S., or eligible A.S. degree are required to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours. Overall, the program provides a structured yet adaptable pathway for students to build on their existing expertise and earn a bachelor’s degree efficiently.
