COURSE CURRICULUM

This is a 4-year (9-term including summer) degree that combines science with liberal arts, including a modern language requirement.In the first year, students build a strong base in science and academics. Courses include Principles of Biology, General Chemistry I & II, math (precalculus or higher), and Composition I & II. Students also begin General Botany.In the second year, students continue with core science courses like General Zoology, Physics, and Statistics. They also start modern language courses and digital literacy, which are key differences from the BS degree. This year focuses on both scientific understanding and broader academic skills.In the third year, students move into more specialized environmental studies. Courses include Genetics, Microbiology or Cell Biology, Local Flora, Basic Ecology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). A summer course in Woody Landscape Plants is recommended.In the fourth year, students take advanced wildlife and ecology courses such as Ornithology (birds), Mammalogy (mammals), Herpetology (reptiles and amphibians), Biological Evolution, and Wildlife Management & Conservation. They also choose physiology-related courses and electives like Entomology or Invertebrate Zoology.In the final term, students complete a Biological Science Seminar along with general education courses like humanities, fine arts, and social sciences.Overall, the BA program is slightly less math-intensive than the BS and includes modern language and liberal arts courses. It still provides strong training in ecology, wildlife biology, and conservation, while offering more flexibility and a broader educational background. This makes it suitable for careers in conservation, environmental education, policy, or further graduate studies.
