COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry Bachelor of Arts program at Northwest Missouri State University is a four-year degree that combines core chemistry training with a strong emphasis on liberal arts and a required minor, offering students a broad and flexible education. In the first year, students focus on foundational courses such as biology, general chemistry, composition, and precalculus algebra, along with a university seminar. The second semester continues with general chemistry II, composition, history, a modern language, and minor coursework, ensuring both scientific and general education development.During the second year, students advance into organic chemistry and physics while continuing their modern language sequence and minor courses. Communication skills are strengthened through oral communication, and electives allow for additional academic exploration. This year helps students build a solid base in both chemistry and supporting disciplines.In the third year, the program emphasizes flexibility and specialization. Students complete courses in social and behavioral sciences, humanities, and fine arts, while also focusing more on their minor and upper-level coursework. Analytical chemistry with lab is a key component, providing hands-on experience with advanced laboratory techniques. Students also take higher-level chemistry and minor electives, allowing them to tailor their degree to their interests.In the fourth year, students complete advanced coursework, including a chemistry seminar, government, digital literacy, and additional upper-level electives in both chemistry and their minor. Literature and social sciences round out the program.
