COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Business Analytics program at Montclair State University is designed to equip students with the practical and analytical skills needed to solve real-world business problems through data. Core courses focus on foundational and advanced topics such as data wrangling and analysis, database systems, applied business statistics, and data visualization. Students also gain exposure to optimization methods and data mining techniques, including supervised and unsupervised machine learning. The program emphasizes both technical and strategic aspects of business analytics, with coursework in artificial intelligence, business process analysis, and text mining through advanced data mining classes. Students become proficient in tools such as R, Python, SQL, and various data visualization platforms.A key component of the curriculum is the culminating experience, which may be fulfilled through an Analytics Capstone or an Analytics Internship. The capstone allows students to collaborate with industry partners to address real-world problems using analytics, while the internship provides hands-on experience in sectors such as healthcare, technology, or manufacturing. Students may also select an additional culminating component: either a one-credit research project exploring analytics applications across industries or a zero-credit seminar focused on career transition, resume building, and networking with industry professionals. This program effectively blends theoretical knowledge, technical training, and industry experience, preparing graduates for careers in data analysis, business intelligence, and strategic decision-making.
