COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) pre-licensure program is a comprehensive, four-year curriculum designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, writing, communication, and statistics while being introduced to nursing as a profession through the NURS 199 seminar. Sophomore year integrates scientific and nursing coursework, including microbiology, nutrition, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and health assessment, along with practical skills in simulation labs. Courses in professional nursing and information technology lay the groundwork for understanding the role of nurses in healthcare. In the junior year, the program emphasizes clinical skills through didactic and practicum courses such as Family Centered Care of Adults and Elderly, behavioral health, and adult care continuation. Students gain experience in transprofessional teamwork and apply theory in varied clinical settings. A focus on global and population health, genetics, and community assessment expands their perspective on healthcare systems. In the senior year, the curriculum covers care of childbearing families and pediatric populations, evidence-based practice, leadership, integration of nursing knowledge, and communication. Courses like Nursing Leadership and Integration reinforce clinical decision-making, ethical care, and social justice. By the end of the program, students are equipped with essential competencies in patient-centered care, health promotion, critical thinking, and leadership. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and enter professional nursing practice or pursue advanced education.
