COURSE CURRICULUM

The Hospitality, Sports, Events, and Tourism (HSET) program offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum designed to equip students with both practical skills and academic knowledge necessary for success in service-oriented industries. In the first year, students are introduced to core areas including workplace writing, spreadsheet modeling, statistics, psychology, ethics, world geography, and American politics, alongside foundational courses in hospitality and tourism. Emphasis is placed on communication, quantitative reasoning, and professional orientation. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of the service industry through courses such as service management, accounting, marketing, management processes, and legal aspects. They also gain practical experience through a required cooperative education placement (co-op), working a minimum of 200 hours within the industry. The third year focuses on specialization, with students selecting HSET flexible courses and major electives that allow them to explore personal interests and career goals within hospitality, sports, events, and tourism. Courses in legal issues and communication further enhance their industry awareness and media literacy. Career development is supported through a zero-credit professional preparation course. In the final year, students complete additional major and free electives, allowing flexibility in their academic plan, and participate in a senior seminar, which serves as a capstone experience. This course synthesizes all previous learning and prepares students for leadership roles post-graduation.
