COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology is a 40-credit program that offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education in cultural, physical, linguistic, and archaeological anthropology. Students begin the program with foundational courses including Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Introduction to Archaeology. These core courses introduce essential theories and methods used to study human societies, biology, language, and history. As students progress, they take advanced courses such as Key Issues in Anthropology, Methods in Anthropological Research and Practice, and Seminar in Anthropological Theory, which provide critical analytical skills and theoretical knowledge.In addition to required courses, students select one 200-level elective from a list that includes Applied Anthropology, Urban Anthropology, Historical Archaeology, and other culturally focused classes. They must also complete 15 credits of upper-level electives from a broad and diverse range of theory and methods-based courses. These include topics like Medical Anthropology, Environmental Anthropology, Anthropology of Food and Nutrition, and Planetary Health, among others. This flexibility allows students to tailor their academic experience based on interests in areas such as health, environment, archaeology, and cultural analysis.Students may also choose from optional electives including fieldwork, internships, and independent research, with up to three credits counting toward the major. These hands-on experiences further develop students’ practical skills and deepen their understanding of anthropological research in real-world contexts. The program is ideal for those planning to pursue graduate education, museum or research positions, or careers in public service, education, and non-profits.
