COURSE CURRICULUM

Marist’s Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program provides students with a rigorous and flexible curriculum designed to develop expertise in both technical and managerial aspects of information systems. All MSIS students complete six core courses, totaling 21 credits, which establish a foundation in systems and information concepts, data management, data communications, systems analysis and design, financial and managerial accounting, information systems policy, and culminate in a capstone project. These core courses ensure that graduates are proficient in managing information systems and addressing organizational needs with strategic, data-driven solutions.For students pursuing the Computer Networks and Security (CNS) concentration, an additional nine credits focus specifically on network design, implementation, security, and virtualization. These courses provide practical, hands-on training in emerging network technologies, equipping students to secure enterprise infrastructures and troubleshoot complex technical challenges. To further tailor their education, students select six credits of electives from Information Systems, Business, or Software Development courses, allowing them to align their studies with professional interests and career goals. Prerequisites include foundational knowledge in statistics through MATH 130, ensuring students are prepared for data-driven coursework.Graduates of the MSIS program, especially those in the CNS concentration, are prepared for a wide range of career paths, including security administrator, technical manager, systems administrator, network specialist, network operations manager, IT administrator, internet engineer, LAN/WAN engineer, and network administrator. The program also provides a strong foundation for executive roles such as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).To accommodate working professionals, Marist offers the option to complete the MSIS degree online via Brightspace, with the same faculty teaching both on-campus and online classes. The program’s combination of core knowledge, concentration specialization, elective flexibility, and practical experience ensures that students graduate with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving field of information systems and network security.
