Marist University’s Athletic Training program places a strong emphasis on extensive clinical experience, recognizing it as a cornerstone of professional preparation. Students complete nine clinical rotations throughout the program, including four consecutive five-week immersive rotations that provide intensive hands-on experience. These rotations allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, working directly under the supervision of experienced, certified, and licensed healthcare providers. The program offers a diverse range of clinical environments, including high schools, colleges, sports teams, physical therapy centers, and Marist’s own Sports Medicine Facility, which is staffed with full-time certified athletic trainers. This variety ensures students gain exposure to a wide spectrum of patient populations, injury types, and treatment modalities, preparing them to handle the multifaceted challenges of the profession. The structured rotations are designed not only to develop practical skills in injury assessment, prevention, and rehabilitation but also to foster critical thinking, decision-making, and professional communication within healthcare teams. Faculty mentors collaborate with students to tailor clinical experiences to individual career goals, whether in collegiate athletics, professional sports, rehabilitation, or other healthcare settings. By combining rigorous academic instruction with comprehensive, supervised clinical practice, Marist’s program ensures graduates enter the field of athletic training with both confidence and competence.
