COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science at Marist University is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for licensure, certification, and professional practice in clinical laboratory settings. The program requires a total of 120 credits, including a minimum of 60 liberal arts credits, and emphasizes a balance of theoretical knowledge, laboratory skills, and clinical experience. The core curriculum in Medical Laboratory Science consists of 46 credits, covering fundamental courses such as Methods in Medical Technology, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Clinical Immunology/Immunohematology, and Clinical Microscopy. Advanced courses and laboratories build technical expertise, culminating in a capping course, MEDT 477N – Topics in Medical Technology.Complementing the major, students take 36–39 credits in related fields, including Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Statistics, ensuring a strong scientific foundation. Liberal arts requirements contribute 37 credits, covering foundational courses such as First Year Seminar and Writing for College, as well as distribution courses in philosophy, ethics, fine arts, history, literature, mathematics, natural science, and social science, with a 12-credit pathway providing interdisciplinary breadth. Electives ranging from 0–1 credit allow further academic enrichment through subjects such as Biotechnology, Genetics, Calculus, and Physics.Structured programs in specialized areas—Immunohematology, Clinical Microbiology, Hematology, and Clinical Chemistry—enable students to focus on a specific discipline while meeting the same rigorous requirements as the general MLS major. Students in structured tracks must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in all science and math courses, complete phlebotomy training, and participate in campus-based advanced lecture series and clinical internships.
