COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at Marist University provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students for careers addressing complex environmental challenges. The major includes approximately 60–61 credits, beginning with core courses such as Introduction to Environmental Issues, Environmental Methods, Environmental Politics and Policy, Geographic Information Systems, Ecology, and Earth Systems Science. Students also gain practical experience through internships, research projects, and a capping course that integrates scientific knowledge with policy applications. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world problem solving, ensuring students develop both technical and analytical skills.In addition to the core, students complete 18–19 credits in related fields, including foundational courses in biology, chemistry, government, and statistics or data analysis. This interdisciplinary base helps students understand environmental issues from scientific, political, and quantitative perspectives. Furthermore, students must complete 17 credits of related field electives, with at least 10 credits from environmental science courses. These electives allow specialization in areas such as environmental chemistry, climate change, environmental law, GIS, ecology, and environmental planning, offering flexibility to align studies with career goals.The program also includes a Core/Liberal Studies component (34 credits), covering philosophy, ethics, arts, history, and literature to ensure a well-rounded education. Finally, students complete 25–26 credits of general electives, which can be used for internships, additional specialization, or complementary fields of study. With a total of 120 credits required for graduation, the program balances scientific depth, interdisciplinary learning, and practical experience. Overall, it prepares graduates for careers in environmental consulting, research, policy, and sustainability, as well as for advanced studies in environmental science and related disciplines.
