COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Sciences major offers a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in healthcare and advanced professional study. The program requires 66 credits in biomedical sciences, focusing heavily on biology and chemistry. Students complete foundational courses such as General Biology I and II, along with advanced topics like Human Anatomy and Physiology or Vertebrate Anatomy and Advanced Physiology, Genetics, and a capping course that integrates their knowledge. Practical experience is emphasized through internships or research sequences, allowing students to gain hands-on exposure in real-world or laboratory settings. Additionally, students must earn at least a C grade in key introductory biology and chemistry courses to progress in the program.The chemistry component includes General Chemistry I and II with labs, followed by Organic Chemistry I and II and their respective laboratories, ensuring a strong understanding of chemical principles relevant to biological systems. Physics courses with labs are also required, providing essential knowledge of physical sciences. The program includes 15 credits of biomedical science electives, where students can choose advanced biology courses with laboratory components as well as courses from related disciplines such as business, health, psychology, or mathematics. These electives allow students to tailor their education toward specific career goals or even complete a minor, such as in business, which is recommended for pre-health students.In addition, students must complete 10 credits in related fields, including technology-based coursework, statistics, and calculus, to strengthen their analytical and technical skills. The program totals 76 credits within the major, alongside 37 credits in Core/Liberal Studies, including foundational and distribution requirements across humanities, arts, and social sciences. A small number of electives further enhance flexibility. Overall, the 120-credit program provides a strong scientific foundation, practical experience, and interdisciplinary knowledge, preparing graduates for medical, dental, and other health professional programs.
