COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Marist University provides students with a comprehensive foundation in psychological theory, research methods, and applied practice, while allowing flexibility to explore personal interests and career goals. The program requires a minimum of 90 liberal arts credits and a total of 120 credits for graduation.The major itself consists of 42 credits. Foundation courses include Introduction to Psychology, two sequential research methodology and lab courses, and a capping course, Psychological Systems. Students then complete 16 credits in breadth requirements, choosing five courses from at least four of five categories: Developmental Psychology, Biological Psychology, Sociocultural Psychology, Learning and Cognition, and Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology. Each category includes courses that integrate both theory and lab work, such as Cognitive Neuroscience & Neuropsychology and Social Psychology of Modern Living. Students also complete six credits focused on life-after-Marist preparation, which may include internships or supervised research.Related fields contribute an additional six credits, covering introductory statistics and technology for the 21st century, which complement the psychological coursework and support data analysis and research skills.The Core/Liberal Studies requirements total 37 credits and include a foundation seminar, writing, and a breadth of courses in philosophy, ethics, fine arts, history, literature, mathematics, natural science, and social science. Pathway courses provide additional flexibility to integrate interdisciplinary topics or study areas outside the core disciplines.Electives make up 41 credits, enabling students to tailor their education further and explore complementary fields, such as business, computer science, or health sciences.Overall, the Psychology BA at Marist combines rigorous coursework, research opportunities, and practical experience.
