COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics program at Marist University offers students a rigorous foundation in both pure and applied mathematics, preparing them for graduate studies, research, or careers requiring strong analytical and quantitative skills. The major requires a minimum of 43 credits in mathematics, including foundational courses such as Calculus I–III, Linear Algebra, Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning, Probability and Statistics, Abstract Algebra I, and Mathematical Analysis I, culminating in a capping course. In addition, students complete 9 credits of upper-level mathematics electives, allowing them to explore specialized topics such as Differential Equations, Applied Statistics, Bayesian Analysis, Computational Linear Algebra, Partial Differential Equations, Complex Analysis, Operations Research, Combinatorics, Geometry, and Elementary Topology. This flexible structure encourages students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals, integrating both theoretical and computational approaches to mathematics.Students also complete courses in related fields, such as Introduction to Data Analysis, to enhance their practical and interdisciplinary skills. A minimum of 90 credits in Liberal Arts is required, including 40 credits in Core/Liberal Studies that cover foundational coursework, breadth requirements in philosophy, ethics, fine arts, history, literature, natural science, and social science, and 12 credits in a Pathway program that allows for further academic exploration. Electives totaling 37 credits provide additional flexibility, enabling students to pursue coursework in areas such as business, computer science, foreign languages, natural sciences, or social sciences, creating a well-rounded academic experience.Overall, the Mathematics curriculum balances a rigorous core of theoretical and applied mathematics with opportunities for specialization and interdisciplinary learning. Students gain essential skills in problem-solving, logical reasoning, and quantitative analysis while having the freedom to explore advanced topics such as Computational Linear Algebra, Mathematical Reasoning, and Elementary Topology.
