COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Earth Science at Marist University offers a focused yet interdisciplinary curriculum that combines environmental studies with earth science principles. The major requires approximately 46 credits, beginning with foundational courses such as Introduction to Environmental Issues, Environmental Politics and Policy, and Introduction to Geology with its lab component. Students also explore key topics like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Water & Climate, and Earth Systems Science, which provide a strong understanding of the planet’s physical processes and environmental challenges. Practical experience is emphasized through either a research project or internship, and the program concludes with a capping course that integrates scientific knowledge with environmental policy and real-world applications.In addition to major coursework, students complete 20 credits in related fields, including chemistry, physics, cosmology, calculus, statistics, and political science. This combination ensures a solid scientific and analytical foundation while also incorporating an understanding of governance and policy. The program is designed to balance scientific rigor with broader liberal arts education, requiring a minimum of 90 liberal arts credits overall.The Core/Liberal Studies component (37 credits) includes foundational courses such as First Year Seminar and Writing for College, along with distribution requirements in philosophy, ethics, fine arts, history, and literature. These courses ensure students develop critical thinking, communication, and ethical reasoning skills alongside their scientific training.Students also complete around 37 credits of general electives, allowing flexibility to explore additional interests, pursue internships, or prepare for graduate study.
