COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry program offers a flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum that combines core chemistry knowledge with biological sciences and liberal arts education. The program requires 35 credits in chemistry, covering essential topics such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, thermodynamics, and computational chemistry, along with multiple laboratory courses that provide practical, hands-on experience. Students also complete Biochemistry I and its laboratory, as well as a research-based capping course that develops independent research and analytical skills, preparing them to apply scientific knowledge in real-world contexts.In addition to chemistry, students complete 27–28 credits in related fields, primarily focused on biology, mathematics, and physics. Foundational courses in general biology are required, along with one advanced biology or related course such as biotechnology, microbiology, genetics, immunology, or molecular biology, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. Supporting coursework in Calculus I and II and General Physics with laboratory components strengthens their quantitative and scientific reasoning abilities. Altogether, the major requires 62–63 credits.The program also emphasizes a strong liberal arts component, requiring at least 90 liberal arts credits and 37 credits in Core/Liberal Studies, including foundational courses like First Year Seminar and Writing for College, along with distribution requirements in humanities, arts, and social sciences. Students also complete 20–21 elective credits, offering flexibility to explore additional interests or prepare for careers in healthcare or other fields. Overall, the 120-credit program provides a balanced education that integrates chemistry, biology, and broader academic skills, preparing graduates for diverse career paths or further study.
