COURSE CURRICULUM

The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) Physician Assistant (PA) Program is a comprehensive two-year Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) degree designed to develop competent, compassionate, and patient-centered healthcare professionals. The curriculum emphasizes ethical patient care, cultural humility, and interprofessional collaboration, ensuring students are equipped to address barriers to care for vulnerable and special populations. Through this program, students gain an understanding of healthcare team dynamics, which leads to better outcomes, more cost-effective care, and a patient-centered approach.LTU employs innovative teaching methods such as the flipped classroom, allowing students to preview concepts in advance and use class time for interactive problem-solving and in-depth discussions. This approach enhances critical thinking, practical application, and creative engagement, transforming the learning experience beyond traditional lectures.The program is divided into a didactic year (60 credit hours) and a clinical year (45 credit hours). During the didactic year, students progress through fall, spring, and summer semesters. The fall semester includes Clinical Medicine I (6 credits), PAE I (4 credits), Health Care Issues I (2 credits), Pharmacology I (2 credits), Anatomy (3 credits), and Pathophysiology I (1 credit), totaling 18 credits. The spring semester covers Clinical Medicine II (6), PAE II (4), Health Care Issues II (2), Pharmacology II (2), Pathophysiology II (1), Behavioral Medicine (3), and Special Populations (3), totaling 21 credits. The summer semester includes Clinical Medicine III (6), PAE III (4), Health Care Issues III (2), Pharmacology III (2), Pathophysiology III (1), Medical Diagnostics & Procedures (3), and Emergency Medicine (3), also totaling 21 credits.The clinical year immerses students in hands-on patient care across diverse settings. In the fall semester, rotations include Family Medicine (5 credits), Internal Medicine (5), and Surgery (5). The spring semester includes Pediatrics (5), Women’s Health (5), and Behavioral Medicine (5). The summer semester provides Emergency Medicine (5) and two elective rotations (5 credits each), totaling 15 credits per semester.This structure ensures students develop expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of patient care, preparing graduates to excel in diverse healthcare settings while delivering high-quality, ethical, and patient-focused services.
