COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University is designed to help students expand their technical knowledge and gain specialized skills that are highly valued in today’s industries. The program provides a comprehensive foundation in core areas such as mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, design, structural analysis, and electricity, enabling students to tackle real-world engineering challenges. In addition to technical expertise, the program emphasizes communication skills, critical for career success and leadership roles.Graduates are prepared for careers in a wide range of fields, including combustion engines, emissions and energy systems, manufacturing processes and systems, structural analysis, powertrain systems, and dynamics, vibrations, thermal sciences, and fluid mechanics. The program combines theory with hands-on learning and leverages strong industry connections to provide students with practical experience and networking opportunities. This approach ensures that students are ready to meet the expectations of employers and contribute effectively to complex engineering projects.The 30-credit-hour program offers flexibility for working professionals, with courses available in the evenings and options for accelerated completion. Students can choose a coursework-only path, which includes four core courses and six electives, or a thesis option, which involves four core courses, three electives, and a research-based thesis tailored to their interests. Core courses allow a focus on solid mechanics or thermal-fluid systems, while elective courses offer opportunities to specialize in areas such as automotive engineering, energy systems, manufacturing, mechatronics, solid mechanics, dynamics and vibration systems, or thermal-fluid systems. This flexibility allows students to tailor their education to their career goals and personal interests while gaining the skills necessary to lead in mechanical engineering.
