COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Cardiovascular Perfusion (MSCVP) curriculum at Lawrence Technological University is an intensive 90-credit-hour program completed over five consecutive semesters, designed to provide both strong theoretical knowledge and extensive clinical experience. In the first semester, students build a solid foundation in core medical sciences and perfusion basics through courses such as Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology, Cardiovascular Monitoring, and Perfusion Theory and Practice I, along with a lab component that emphasizes hands-on learning. They also study Research Methods and gain an understanding of the healthcare system through the Framework of Healthcare course. In the second semester, students advance their knowledge with subjects like Applied Pharmacology, Cardiac Pathophysiology, and Perfusion Theory and Practice II, while continuing intensive lab training. They also begin their capstone research project, integrating academic knowledge with research skills.From the third semester onward, the program shifts heavily toward real-world clinical training. Students participate in multiple phases of Clinical Practice, progressing from Phase I to Phase VI across semesters three, four, and five. These clinical rotations provide immersive, hands-on experience in hospital settings, where students apply their knowledge in actual cardiovascular procedures under professional supervision. Alongside clinical work, students continue developing their capstone research project, demonstrating their ability to analyze, evaluate, and contribute to the field. The curriculum is aligned with accreditation standards and focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Overall, the program ensures that graduates are fully prepared for the demanding and high-responsibility role of a perfusionist, combining academic depth with extensive practical training in life-saving medical procedures.
