COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering curriculum at Lawrence Technological University is designed to provide a strong balance of core knowledge, specialization, and practical experience through two flexible pathways: a research thesis option and a design project option. In the research thesis track, students complete 15–16 credit hours of core courses, 6–9 credit hours of electives, and 6–9 credit hours dedicated to a master’s thesis. This option is ideal for those interested in research, innovation, or pursuing further academic studies. In the design project track, students complete the same core requirements but take 9–12 credit hours of electives along with a 6–9 credit hour design project, focusing more on practical, industry-oriented applications. Both options ensure a total graduate-level experience tailored to different career goals.The core curriculum begins with advanced mathematics, where students choose from courses such as Engineering Analysis I, Engineering Analysis, or Engineering Analysis II, building strong analytical and problem-solving skills. In addition, students select three specialized biomedical engineering courses from areas like Biocompatibility, Advanced Biomaterials, Orthopedic Engineering Applications, Cell Mechanobiology, Biosignals and Systems, and Quantitative Physiology. These subjects provide in-depth knowledge of biological systems and medical technologies, preparing students to work on real-world healthcare challenges. Electives further allow students to customize their learning based on interests such as medical devices, tissue engineering, or emerging biomedical technologies. Overall, the curriculum combines theoretical understanding, technical expertise, and hands-on experience through either a thesis or design project, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in biomedical engineering, healthcare innovation, and research.
