COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Design and Technology at Lawrence Technological University is a one-year, 30-credit graduate program designed to integrate advanced design practices with technological expertise, preparing students to lead innovative projects across diverse creative industries. The program is structured across three consecutive semesters, beginning with a focused summer session that emphasizes research and analytical skills. In this first term, students take Design Research to Insight, which teaches them to translate complex research findings into actionable design strategies, and Research Practicum, providing hands-on experience in conducting and analyzing design research. The fall semester expands on these skills through courses such as Emerging Visual Communication, which explores contemporary visual media and communication techniques, and Design Methods, which covers advanced problem-solving frameworks and design thinking strategies. The semester also includes a six-credit Design Studio, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world design projects, promoting creativity and practical skill development. The spring semester culminates the program with courses that synthesize knowledge, research, and application. Visual Storytelling hones students’ ability to craft compelling narratives across multiple media, while Design Management introduces strategies for leading creative teams and managing complex design projects. The final Design Studio serves as a capstone, where students execute professional-level projects, integrating technology, research, and creative design practices.
