COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at Lawrence Technological University is a four-year, CIDA-accredited program designed to develop both creative vision and professional expertise. In the first year, students build foundational skills in design principles, visual communication, mathematics, physics, and composition, alongside introductory courses in design methodologies and sustainability. The second year emphasizes interior-specific knowledge, including the history of interiors, human factors and ergonomics, materials and systems, spatial perception, prototyping, and fabrication, while students also complete a sophomore portfolio review to assess progress. During the third year, students expand their understanding through courses in human comfort, furniture and millwork, technical communication, multidisciplinary studio work, and the history of the designed environment, complemented by electives in social sciences and literature. In the final year, students focus on professional practice and leadership, completing courses in design theory, interior design practice, space planning, and empathy-driven design, culminating in a two-part capstone sequence. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with digital tools, project-based learning, and industry-sponsored projects, while CoAD electives and humanities courses provide interdisciplinary breadth. Overall, the curriculum combines technical skills, design theory, human-centered approaches, and professional practice to prepare graduates for careers in interior design and related fields, totaling approximately 123–124 credits over four years.
