COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in mathematics, science, engineering, and communication, preparing them for more advanced studies in the field. In the fall semester, students begin with Calculus 1, which establishes the essential mathematical tools needed for engineering analysis, followed by University Chemistry 1 and its accompanying lab, offering a practical understanding of chemical principles relevant to materials and energy systems. The Fundamentals of Engineering Design Projects course introduces students to the engineering design process, emphasizing problem-solving, project planning, and teamwork. Introduction to C programming equips students with fundamental programming skills, essential for controlling systems and analyzing data in electrical engineering applications. Additionally, College Composition hones students’ writing and communication skills, while Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering provides an overview of the field, familiarizing students with basic concepts in circuits, electronics, and computer systems. These courses collectively total 15 credits, balancing technical, theoretical, and communication skills.In the spring semester, the curriculum builds on this foundation with Calculus 2, expanding students’ mathematical proficiency to support physics and engineering problem-solving. University Physics 1 and its lab provide practical experience in mechanics, electromagnetism, and experimental procedures, reinforcing the connection between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. The Entrepreneurial Engineering Design Studio encourages students to apply their skills to innovative projects, integrating creativity with practical design considerations. Courses such as Engaging Ancient Texts and Technical and Professional Communication further enhance students’ analytical thinking and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. These courses total 17 credits, bringing the first-year cumulative credits to 32, and ensuring that students develop a well-rounded skill set. Overall, the first year combines rigorous technical training with humanities and communication courses, giving students a comprehensive foundation for advanced electrical engineering studies while fostering problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration.
