COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science degree in Geography requires students to complete a combination of core courses, electives, additional program requirements, and a culminating thesis, totaling a minimum of 30 credit hours. The major core courses include GEOG 60800, Seminar in the Development of Geographic Thought, and GEOG 69701, Research and Presentation of Geographic Data, each worth three credit hours. Students also select six credit hours of major electives from a variety of courses, including Geographic Information Science, Spatial Programming, Advanced Geographic Information Science, Remote Sensing, and Quantitative Methods in Geography. In addition, students must complete 12 credit hours of additional program requirements, which allow for further specialization and skill development in their chosen area of geographic study. The program culminates with a six-credit-hour thesis (GEOG 60199, Thesis I), in which students conduct original research, synthesize geographic methods, and present their findings. This structure ensures that graduates gain both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills, preparing them for careers in academia, government, private industry, or for further doctoral study in geographic fields.
