COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Physiology Interdisciplinary requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-two credit hours, combining core coursework, specialized electives, and a research-based thesis. The program begins with foundational courses such as Responsible Conduct of Research and Introduction to Biomedical Sciences, which establish ethical standards and provide an overview of the field. Students also complete Biochemical Foundations of Medicine, which builds a strong understanding of the biochemical processes underlying human physiology and disease.A key component of the curriculum is the development of quantitative and analytical skills through biostatistical analysis electives. Students may choose from courses such as Bioanthropological Data Analysis, Biological Statistics, or research methods in athletic training and exercise physiology. These courses help students interpret scientific data and design effective research studies. In addition, students select neuroscience or exercise physiology electives, allowing them to focus on areas such as cellular and molecular neuroscience, advanced human physiology, energy metabolism, or cardiopulmonary function. This flexibility enables students to align their coursework with specific research interests and career goals.The program also includes eight to ten credit hours of additional electives, providing further opportunities for specialization and interdisciplinary study. The culminating requirement is Thesis I, where students conduct original research under faculty supervision. This experience allows them to apply theoretical knowledge, laboratory techniques, and analytical skills to investigate complex physiological questions.
