COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Pharmacology requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-two credit hours, combining core coursework, electives, and a research-based thesis. The program is structured to develop strong foundations in pharmacology, molecular biology, and research methods. Students begin with courses such as Bioanthropological Data Analysis or Biological Statistics to build essential quantitative and analytical skills. Additional core courses include Career and Professional Skills for Life Scientists and Laboratory Techniques in Biomedical Sciences, which prepare students for professional environments and hands-on research. Courses in Responsible Conduct of Research and Introduction to Biomedical Sciences ensure that students understand ethical standards and gain an overview of the field.Specialized coursework is a key component of the program, including Cellular and Molecular Signaling and Molecular Pharmacology. These courses provide in-depth knowledge of how drugs interact with biological systems at the molecular level and how signaling pathways influence disease processes and treatment outcomes. This scientific foundation enables students to understand mechanisms of drug action and contributes to their ability to design and evaluate therapeutic strategies.In addition to required courses, students complete eight to nine credit hours of graduate electives approved by their thesis committee. This allows them to explore areas aligned with their research interests, such as drug development, disease mechanisms, or advanced biomedical topics. The culminating requirement is Thesis I, where students conduct original research under faculty supervision.
