COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a specialization in Neurosciences requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-two credit hours, combining core coursework, electives, specialized neuroscience training, and a research-based thesis. The program begins with foundational courses such as Bioanthropological Data Analysis or Biological Statistics to develop quantitative and analytical skills. Additional core requirements include Career and Professional Skills for Life Scientists and Laboratory Techniques in Biomedical Sciences, which prepare students for professional and research environments. Courses in Responsible Conduct of Research and Introduction to Biomedical Sciences ensure that students understand ethical standards and gain a broad overview of the field.Students also complete four to eight credit hours of graduate electives approved by their thesis committee, allowing them to explore areas that align with their research interests. A key component of the program is the neuroscience specialization, where students choose one of two tracks. The first track focuses on Neurobiology: Systems and Behavior along with Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, providing an integrated understanding of brain function from system-level to cellular processes. The second track begins with Foundations of Neuroscience and allows students to select additional courses from a range of topics such as learning and memory, developmental neurobiology, neuroendocrinology, drug addiction, and neurological disorders. This structure ensures both depth and flexibility in neuroscience training.The culminating requirement is Thesis I, where students conduct original research under faculty supervision. This experience enables them to apply theoretical knowledge, laboratory techniques, and analytical skills to investigate complex neuroscience questions.
