COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-two credit hours, combining core coursework, electives, seminars, and a research-based thesis. The major requirements are designed to provide a strong foundation in cellular and molecular biology. Core courses include Bioenergetics and Eukaryotic Cell Biology, which focus on cellular processes and structure, along with Biological Statistics to develop quantitative and analytical skills essential for scientific research. Students also complete Selected Readings in Eukaryotic Cell Biology and a course in Responsible Conduct in Research and Teaching, which emphasizes ethical practices and professional standards in scientific work.In addition to core courses, students participate in Seminar in Biology multiple times, allowing them to engage in scientific discussions, present research, and stay updated with current developments in the field. A student seminar presentation further enhances communication and presentation skills, which are important for academic and professional success. The program also includes nine to eleven credit hours of major electives, giving students the flexibility to explore specialized areas aligned with their research interests, such as molecular genetics, immunology, or developmental biology.The culminating requirement of the program is Thesis I, where students conduct original research under faculty supervision. This thesis experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills to investigate complex biological questions, analyze data, and contribute new insights to the field.
