COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing requires the completion of a minimum of forty-eight credit hours and is structured to provide intensive training in writing, literary study, and professional development. The program is centered around writing workshops, which make up fifteen credit hours and serve as the core of the curriculum. In these workshops, students actively produce and critique creative work, receiving feedback from faculty and peers to refine their writing skills and develop their unique voice.In addition to workshops, students complete nine credit hours of craft and theory courses, which focus on the techniques, styles, and principles behind effective writing. These courses help students understand the creative process and strengthen their ability to analyze and improve their work. Six credit hours of literature courses further enhance students’ understanding of literary traditions, genres, and influential writers, providing important context for their own creative practice.The program also includes an internship component, allowing students to gain practical experience in areas such as publishing, editing, or teaching. Alongside this, students complete nine credit hours of electives, giving them the flexibility to explore additional topics or specialize in areas of interest.The culminating requirement is a six-credit thesis, where students produce a substantial body of original creative work in their chosen genre, such as fiction, poetry, or nonfiction. Overall, the program combines creative practice, theoretical study, and professional experience to prepare students for careers in writing, publishing, academia, and related fields.
