COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs requires a comprehensive set of courses designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for leadership in college and university settings. Core courses focus on key areas such as college student development, leadership in educational organizations, business administration in higher education, administration of multiculturalism and diversity, intercultural communication for international educators, and assessment and accreditation in higher education. Each of these courses provides three credit hours, ensuring a strong foundation in the principles and practices necessary for effective administration.Students also select 15 credit hours of electives, which may include graduate-level courses in Higher Education (HIED) or Career Counseling (CES 68182), as well as additional courses approved by the program advisor. This flexibility allows students to tailor their learning to specific professional interests and career goals, whether in student affairs, academic services, or administrative leadership.The culminating requirement of the program is a six-credit internship in Higher Education Administration (HIED 66492), giving students hands-on experience in real-world higher education environments. This practical component reinforces classroom learning, providing opportunities to apply theory to practice, develop professional networks, and gain insight into institutional operations and student support services.The program’s total credit requirement is 39 hours, integrating core knowledge, specialized electives, and experiential learning. Graduates are prepared to assume administrative positions in a wide variety of functional areas within higher education, including campus life, career services, judicial affairs, residence life, alumni relations, admissions, academic success programs, advising, international student services, institutional advancement, and student support services. This degree equips students with the leadership, management, and interpersonal skills necessary to foster student development, manage programs effectively, and contribute strategically to the success of their institutions.
