COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Translation program requires a minimum of 37 credit hours and is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for professional translation and interpreting careers. The core curriculum includes key courses such as Introduction to Translation Technology, Theory of Translation and Interpreting, Terminology and Computer Applications in Translation, Practice of Translation, and Career Paths in the Language Industry. These courses help students develop a strong foundation in translation tools, theoretical frameworks, terminology management, and real-world professional practices. In addition, students complete 12 to 15 credit hours of major electives, which may include advanced translation studies courses or interdisciplinary options like natural language processing, allowing them to broaden their expertise.The program offers two main concentrations: Language and Technology and Multilingual Communication, requiring 9 to 12 credit hours depending on the track. In the Language concentration, students focus on literary and cultural translation and select additional courses in a specific language such as Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish, with options covering commercial, legal, diplomatic, scientific, and technical translation. This track emphasizes linguistic depth and cultural competence. Alternatively, the Technology and Multilingual Communication concentration allows students to specialize in areas such as emerging media, global security, international business, technology, or user experience. These options integrate translation skills with modern technological and global communication demands.Overall, the program combines core coursework, flexible electives, and specialized concentration training to prepare students for diverse roles in the language industry.
