COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Sociology program requires a minimum of 30 credit hours and is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in sociological theory, research methods, and ethical practice. The core curriculum includes essential courses such as Professional and Ethical Issues in Sociology, which focuses on ethical standards and professional responsibilities, and Early Sociological Theory, which introduces students to foundational thinkers and key theoretical perspectives in the field. To build strong analytical and research skills, students complete Quantitative Methods in Sociology and Multivariate Techniques in Sociology, which emphasize data analysis, statistical techniques, and the interpretation of complex social data. In addition to these core courses, students must complete 10 credit hours of advisor-approved electives, allowing them to explore specialized areas of interest within sociology and tailor their studies to their academic or career goals.A major component of the program is the culminating requirement, Thesis I, which carries 6 credit hours. This thesis provides students with the opportunity to conduct independent, in-depth research on a sociological topic of their choice under faculty supervision. Through this process, students apply theoretical knowledge and research methods to produce a substantial scholarly work, demonstrating their ability to analyze social issues critically and systematically. The thesis experience also serves as valuable preparation for doctoral study or research-oriented careers.
