COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Arts degree in Political Science offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding the complex dynamics of political systems, governance, and public policy. The program is designed for students who seek either to advance toward doctoral studies or to gain a terminal master’s degree that enhances professional opportunities in government, international organizations, non-profits, or policy analysis. Core coursework provides students with a strong foundation in political inquiry, including courses in scope and epistemology, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and foundational theories in the field. Students can choose between a thesis or non-thesis option for their culminating experience. The non-thesis path requires a capstone seminar and additional electives, emphasizing applied learning and synthesis of knowledge, while the thesis option allows for original research and a more in-depth exploration of a specialized topic, providing preparation for advanced scholarly work. To further tailor their studies, students select one of three concentrations: American Politics and Policy, Conflict Analysis and Management, or Transnational and Comparative Politics. Each concentration combines core and elective courses to offer both breadth and depth in the chosen field. The American Politics and Policy concentration examines domestic policy processes, institutions, and political behavior, preparing students for roles in public policy analysis, government, and civic engagement. The Conflict Analysis and Management concentration focuses on understanding and resolving domestic and international conflicts, equipping students with mediation, negotiation, and conflict transformation skills applicable in social, organizational, and governmental contexts. The Transnational and Comparative Politics concentration emphasizes global political dynamics, including international governance, development, and foreign policy, fostering the analytical skills necessary for careers in international organizations, diplomacy, and global policy research. Across all concentrations, students engage with rigorous coursework, research methods, and electives approved by advisors, ensuring a personalized educational experience. With a minimum of thirty credit hours, the program balances theoretical foundations, practical applications, and specialized knowledge, preparing graduates for diverse careers or further academic pursuits in political science.
