COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Biology program requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-one credit hours and is structured to provide both foundational knowledge and flexible specialization options. The major requirements include core courses such as Biological Statistics, Career and Professional Skills for Life Scientists, and Responsible Conduct in Research and Teaching, which together build analytical, professional, and ethical competencies. Students also participate in Seminar in Biology across multiple semesters to engage in scientific discussions and develop presentation skills. In addition, Individual Investigation allows students to explore specific topics in depth under faculty guidance, even though the program is non-thesis in nature.A significant portion of the program, fifteen credit hours, is dedicated to additional requirements or a chosen concentration. Students may either design a customized plan of study in consultation with an academic advisor or select from one of four structured concentrations: Biological Data Analytics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology, or Medical Biology. Each concentration provides a focused pathway, combining required courses with a range of electives that allow students to deepen their expertise in specific areas such as genomics, ecology, disease mechanisms, or data analysis. These options ensure that students can align their academic experience with their career goals, whether in teaching, professional school preparation, or industry roles.For students not selecting a concentration, coursework is chosen with advisor guidance, often focusing on areas like molecular biology, ecology, or education. Across all pathways, the program emphasizes flexibility, interdisciplinary learning, and practical skill development. Overall, the curriculum balances core scientific training with customizable options, enabling students to gain comprehensive knowledge in biological sciences while preparing for diverse career opportunities or further academic pursuits.
