COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Anthropology is a research-oriented program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical experience in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology. The core curriculum includes courses in cultural anthropology, world prehistory, and principles of biological anthropology, each requiring a minimum grade of B, ensuring a strong foundational understanding across the discipline. Beyond the core, students select 21 credit hours of electives from a wide range of options, including specialized courses in bioinformatics, neuroendocrinology, endocrinology, hormones and behavior, foundations of neuroscience, sedimentology and stratigraphy, geographic information science, museum studies, and additional graduate-level anthropology courses. This flexible elective structure allows students to tailor their studies to their specific research interests and career goals. The program culminates with a thesis project (Thesis I) totaling six credit hours, enabling students to conduct independent research under faculty supervision, synthesize their learning, and contribute original insights to the field. Overall, the 36-credit-hour program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills, preparing them for doctoral study, academic research, or professional roles in anthropology-related fields.
