COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Liberal Studies degree offers students a distinctive opportunity to pursue graduate-level study tailored to their individual interests and professional goals. The program is designed to be highly flexible and interdisciplinary, allowing students to craft a personalized curriculum under the guidance of the program director. Central to the degree requirements is the completion of either an internship (LSTU 60092) or a Liberal Studies Essay (LSTU 61098), which serves as the culminating experience of the program. The internship provides practical, hands-on experience in a professional setting, enabling students to apply the knowledge and skills gained through coursework to real-world contexts. The Liberal Studies Essay, on the other hand, allows students to engage in in-depth scholarly research, integrating insights from multiple disciplines to address a complex question or project. In addition to the culminating experience, students select 27 credit hours of electives, drawn from a wide range of disciplines across the university. These electives can include courses in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, arts, and other fields, allowing students to explore diverse perspectives and create an integrated, cohesive program of study. The flexibility in course selection enables students to focus on areas of personal or professional interest, develop interdisciplinary expertise, and acquire a broad skill set applicable to a variety of careers. By combining a tailored selection of electives with a practical or research-based culminating experience, the Master of Liberal Studies program equips graduates with critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
