COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies (B.T.A.S.) degree program emphasizes both practical and professional development, combining prior technical knowledge with bachelor-level competencies. Central to the major are key courses designed to ensure student readiness for professional application, including the Technical and Applied Studies Cornerstone, which establishes foundational skills, and the Technical and Applied Studies Capstone, a writing-intensive, experiential course that integrates knowledge and skills gained throughout the program. Students also participate in the Internship for Technical and Applied Studies, which provides direct workplace experience and opportunities to apply theoretical learning in real-world settings. Beyond the core courses, students choose specialization areas to focus on their career interests, completing 36 credit hours that deepen knowledge and expertise in a particular technical or applied field. The B.T.A.S. curriculum is supported by the Kent Core requirements, including composition, mathematics and critical reasoning, humanities and fine arts, social sciences from multiple disciplines, and basic sciences with laboratory experience. Additional Kent Core courses and general electives provide flexibility to explore broader interests, supplement professional competencies, and achieve a total of 120 credit hours necessary for graduation. By combining rigorous academic work with hands-on learning experiences, the program prepares students to transition seamlessly into professional roles, enhancing both technical expertise and workplace readiness. The integration of experiential learning, internships, and research projects cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which are highly valued by employers in dynamic and evolving technical fields.
