COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree prepares students to enter the workforce as public health professionals or to pursue advanced study in the field. The program provides foundational knowledge across the five key disciplines of public health: biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, health policy and management, and the social and behavioral sciences. Students complete core courses such as Introduction to Public Health, Introduction to Global Health, Essentials of Epidemiology, Introductory Biostatistics, Public Health Research, Social and Behavioral Science Theories, Environmental Health and Safety, Prevention and Control of Diseases, Health Disparities, and a Capstone Experience, totaling 56 credit hours. The program also includes general education requirements such as composition, humanities, social sciences, and basic sciences, as well as public health electives and mathematics, bringing the minimum total credit hours for graduation to 120. The BSPH offers six concentrations to allow students to focus their studies. The Allied Health concentration supports licensed or aspiring allied health professionals and includes courses in public health interventions, clinical epidemiology, and management, along with science electives. The Clinical Trials Research concentration trains students in epidemiological methods, research study management, regulatory affairs, and scientific communication. The Community Health Outreach and Development concentration emphasizes advocacy, activism, and community-based strategies to improve population health and address disparities. The Global Health concentration focuses on addressing health challenges for underserved populations worldwide, including required foreign language study and field experiences. The Health Services Administration concentration prepares students for leadership and management roles in healthcare systems through courses in health policy, management, finance, and ethics. Finally, the Pre-Medicine, Dentistry, and Osteopathy concentration prepares students for professional school admission through courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, nutrition, and social sciences. Across all concentrations, students gain practical and theoretical skills to promote public health, engage communities, and advance health equity. Experiential learning, research opportunities, and a combination of electives allow students to tailor their education to career goals, ensuring readiness for a diverse range of public health careers or further professional study.
