COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree prepares students for professional nursing practice, emphasizing clinical expertise, critical thinking, and compassionate patient care. The program provides a strong foundation in the core principles of nursing, including health assessment, pharmacology, nursing interventions, and care across the lifespan. Students begin with courses that introduce professional nursing practice, clinical calculations, and foundational assessment and communication skills. They then progress to courses in adult, pediatric, parent-newborn, psychiatric, community, and critical care nursing, integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical experiences. Additional coursework includes human growth and development, leadership, health policy, nursing informatics, and nutrition. A senior competency laboratory and integration of leadership and management in nursing ensure students develop advanced professional skills and readiness for healthcare environments.Students may choose from two optional concentrations tailored to their background and career goals. The Accelerated Second Degree concentration is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree, allowing them to complete the B.S.N. in an accelerated format while focusing on fundamentals of nursing, professional practice, evidence-based care, and NCLEX preparation. The LPN and Allied Health concentration serves as a bridge program for licensed practical nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, and emergency medical technicians, enabling them to transition into professional nursing roles. Both concentrations include clinical practice, leadership development, and evidence-based care courses.Supporting coursework includes anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics, chemistry, psychology, sociology, and statistics, as well as writing-intensive, composition, and Kent Core courses to ensure a broad liberal arts foundation. The program culminates in a capstone experience, integrating knowledge and practice for professional readiness. Overall, the B.S.N. program prepares graduates to provide safe, competent, and culturally sensitive care while fostering leadership, advocacy, and lifelong learning, equipping them for a variety of professional nursing roles and advanced study opportunities.
