COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Education in Life Science program has a structured set of requirements that combine science content knowledge with professional teaching preparation. Students begin with foundational biology courses such as Biological Diversity and Biological Foundations, followed by more advanced topics like Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Genetics and Evolution, which build a strong understanding of life sciences. Alongside biology, students also study supporting sciences including chemistry and physics. Chemistry courses cover general chemistry, laboratory work and organic and biological chemistry, while physics courses include general physics and associated labs. Earth science is also included through courses like Earth and Life Through Time, ensuring students gain a well-rounded scientific background. In addition to science content, the program includes essential education courses that prepare students for teaching careers. These courses focus on teaching methods, educational psychology, social justice in education and working with diverse learners. Students also complete fieldwork practicum experiences and a major student teaching placement, which allows them to apply their knowledge in real classroom settings. Mathematics requirements such as algebra for calculus and trigonometry help strengthen analytical skills needed for science teaching. The program also includes general education courses in composition, humanities, social sciences and other core areas to ensure a balanced academic experience. A minimum grade requirement must be met in all major and education courses, emphasizing academic performance and competency.
